Have a good weekend and don’t forget to tip your bartender!

June 26, 2009

Sorry for the lack of posts today, didn’t think anything warranted coverage. The NBA totally sucked and I honestly don’t think it needs any more coverage than it’s already gotten, so I’m going to keep my mouth shut.

So have a good weekend and don’t forget to tip your bartender. Cheers!

RIP Michael Jackson

This isn’t exactly the correct venue for this kind of thing, but it is something that is important. The King of Pop has passed away after being rushed to the hospital, suffering from cardiac arrest.

Thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace.

Nationals fans shame Sox fans with a trip to the gay side of the District.

June 25, 2009
And now... we kiss.

And now... we kiss.

Everyone loves bashing the Nationals for failing all season long, on and off the field. Well the Nationals fans struck back at the Red Sox fans that were in town for their three game set with the worst team in the league.

But a bad record doesn’t mean Nats fans can’t be hilarious. I’ll be wearing my curly W hat with pride (as I do everyday) because of these guys on the MLB forums. Enjoy the read:

risoxfan74: Hi Everyone, I’m coming in this week for the Sox series. Are there any decent sportsbars near the ballpark? Thanks again!

PowerBoater69: There’s only a beer garden next to the park, you’re better off up the street on Capitol Hill, Remingtons (639 Pennsylvania Ave SE) is a NE Patriots bar so they’ll probably have a large Red Sox crowd this week.

PowerBoater69: As a bonus this week the Bullpen will be filled with ugly women who can’t dance and have grating accents.

risoxfan74: Thanks so much everyone. Enjoy the games this week!

professorx: I am also coming to the 3 game series for the Sox. I think its great that other cities have bars for Sox/Pats fans. Does the bar you mentioned in Cap. Hill, Remington’s, usually have a good showing of Boston fans? Or is it usually kinda quiet with not that many fans there? Either way I will give it a try since I will be staying in the Cap. Hill area. Thanks for the heads up and good luck to a fun series.

Angelossux: There is a bar on 8th street, on Barracks Row,not far from the stadium, which I think all Boston fans will feel very comfortable in. It’s called Phase 1 and is very nice.

professorx: Hi everyone and thank you all for the helpful tips. i just wanted to let all Red Sox fans and Nationals fans if they want to join us in some pregaming fun at one of the mentioned bars. My hotel is in the Cap. Hill area so I think i will probably start out at the bar called Remington’s and then see how it is and go from there.

PowerBoater69: I walked by Remingtons yesterday and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Red Sox fans in one place other than Fenway.

And then after the game…

professorx: You Nationals fans are pretty funny. I went to Remington’s yesterday only to find out that it is a bar only for guys if you catch my drift. I pounded my drink and got out as fast as I could. On the way out I was fortunate enough to get Adam Dunn’s and Ryan Zimmermans autograph a they were there getting something to eat for the game. lol (last part is obviously false) Good luck in the next two games. oh and by the way Phases bar is no better

Good work boys.

Shaq is headed to Cleveland to help The King win a championship.

June 25, 2009

The Cavs have made their blockbuster trade for the year with the Phoenix Suns, landing the big Shaq Diesel for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic and a second-round draft pick in the 2010 draft. A lot of specualtion has surrounded the Cleveland franchise on who they would be brining in to help Lebron James get to the land of champions, with many thinking it was possible that Yao Ming would help The King find his way.

So what does this do for the Cavs? Shaq is one of the better personalities in the game right now, but he also brings leadership and the knowledge of what it takes to get to the promised land. Shaq is also a big boost to the offense where Ben Wallace was never able to find his groove as he did in Detroit. O’neals 18 points per game will obviously help the team, but the ultimate question can only be answered when the Diesel actually plays some games in a Cavs uniform.

He was able to get the job done with Dwayne Wade in Miami, albeit a few years younger, but he is still an incredibly skilled, physical player in the post.

In my opinion, this trade will certainly get LeBron to the NBA Finals, but the question of winning it all is still undetermined.

The draft is tonight so we will see who else the Cavs will add. My money is on DeMarre Carroll from Mizzou (a little biased, yes) because of his hustle and tough play as a sixth man.

Good way to start the “morning” with Press Hop.

I know Jay-Z declared auto-tune dead with D.O.A., but this is a video that is too good to pass up. I saw it yesterday and didn’t think much of it, but all I could think about was practice. Practice! Not a game… practice. Practice. And so apparently it’s grown on me so much that I feel the need to post it.

Somehow the US was able to put two goals in the back of the net, on their way to upsetting Spain, the number one team in the world. They’ll be heading to the final of the Confederations Cup, but after that game, will anyone in the US care?

The US capatilized on their chances as Altidore and Dempsey while Howard stayed strong in net to prevent Spains attack from scoring in a tough game that the Americans clearly showed up for.

Soccer is all about capatilizing on the chances you get and the US was able to do that. Just being in this game was a miracle considering the crushing defeats to Italy and Brazil, but it was a damn good thing Bob Bradleys team finally decided to show up. This will certainly be a big boost in confidence considering the teams struggles not only in this tournament, but the last few qualifying games as well.

This now becomes one of the better moments in US soccer history, although it will not be as highly touted as the others because it was not in the World Cup. But the fact of the matter is, the US took down the #1 team in the world, a team that was riding a 35 game win streak and are headed to a final with Brazil in three days.

I’m personally a German soccer fan, but because of my citizenship I do root for the US. GO USA!

Oregon football jerseys… ehhhh, I dunno.

June 24, 2009

Check out these pics of the new Oregon football jerseys. You’ve probably seen the outrageous jerseys that Nike co-founder Phil Knight throws at his favorite school every year. They usually get crappy reviews with bloggers saying they’re uglier than Kirstie Alley on a good day, but I honestly like the innovation.

The 2009 jerseys, ehhhhhh they’re alright. I like the colors on some of them, but the wings? Why would anyone see the need for wings on football jerseys? WHY I ASK YOU! WHY? Sorry, I got all wound up on MTN Dew. The helmets are straight up badass though. 100%.

Check out the pics and let your voice be heard in the comments. If you want. I’m totally not forcing you to, but it’s not that hard. Please? C’mon you know you wanna.

Well this sucks: Bruins-Flyers in the Winter Classic. Ovechkin, Capitals absent.

June 24, 2009

Mannnnnnnnnnnn, I don’t know where to start with this one. For months, all the rumors around the league about the Winter Classic involved the Capitals facing the Bruins at Fenway. Nope, it’s gonna be Bruins-Flyers. I’m gonna sit this one out.

The NHL had been lobbying for the Capitals to play in this years edition of the winter classic but apparently NBC had other thoughts. From Fanhouse:

Despite springtime reports that the Flyers were out of the running as Boston’s foe in the next outdoor game, they recently were brought back into the discussion by NBC, which will broadcast the contest.

The NHL lobbied to pit the Washington Capitals against the Bruins in an effort to showcase Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin and his exciting, young team.

However, sources say NBC trumped that decision, telling the NHL it wanted the Flyers instead of the Caps in order to draw a better television audience and increase advertising revenue.

I really feel stuck in Blue Balls Lagoon because the NHL just decided to get me almost all the way there before realizing they had to go jerk NBC off too.

So way to go NHL, you continue to fuck things up and you can’t control what teams play in what games. Good job. Does Versus push you around like that too?
